Local Sports Club Takes Centre Stage as CBBC Films New Series at Queens
Queens Sports Club in Halifax welcomed television cameras this week as the cast and crew of the popular CBBC series High Hoops arrived to film scenes for the show’s upcoming third season.
For one day only, the club underwent a temporary transformation, with the familiar Queens signage replaced by “King’s Sports Club” as filming got underway.
The production brought together a host of well-known faces, including Robert Webb (Peep Show), Isy Suttie (Peep Show), Nigel Boyle (Line of Duty) and Donna Preston (Brassic), who spent the day learning the basics of pickleball from Queens’ own coach, Andrew Spencer.
The visit also gave several Queens members the opportunity to appear on screen, with Kerry Deffley, Andrew Spencer, Georgina Fellows and John Wade all taking part as extras during filming.
The scenes form part of the third series of High Hoops, which is filmed across West Yorkshire and is expected to air on CBBC in early 2027.
The visit comes at an exciting time for Queens Sports Club as it prepares to reopen following its major redevelopment. The club is currently undergoing its biggest transformation in generations, with brand-new squash courts, an upgraded gym, improved social spaces and enhanced facilities set to welcome members back later this summer.
Andrew Gray from Queens Sports Club said:
“It was fantastic to welcome the cast and crew of High Hoops to Queens. Seeing the club transformed into ‘King’s Sports Club’ for the day certainly raised a few smiles! It was a brilliant opportunity to showcase our facilities and introduce pickleball to such a talented cast. We’re incredibly proud that Queens was chosen as one of the filming locations and can’t wait to watch the finished episode when it airs next year.”
Pickleball continues to be one of the fastest-growing sports in the UK, with Queens Sports Club playing a key role in its development across Calderdale through coaching, social sessions and competitive play.
As excitement builds ahead of the club’s reopening, the unexpected TV appearance is another memorable chapter in the long history of Queens, which has been serving the local community since 1887.
